What is Cosmology ?
●The study of universe is known as Cosmology.
●The solar system consists of the 8 planets and their satellites and thousands of other small heavenly bodies such as asteroids, comets, and meteors.
●The sun is at the centre of the solar system and is the nearest star to the Earth
●Facts about the sun÷
◎Average distance from earth = 149598900 km
◎Diameter= 1391980 km
◎Temperature of the core= 15000000°C
◎Rotation speed= 25.38 days(with respect to equator) 33 days(with respect to poles)
◎Time taken by sunlight to reach the earth= 8 min and 16.6 sec.
●Facts about the Earth÷
◎Age=4550 million years
◎Total surface area= 510 million sq km.
◎Water area =70.8% hence called Blue planet.
◎Earth spins on its own axis once in every 24 hrs at the speed of 1,600 km/h. ( We don't feel its rotation because we all are moving with it at the same constant speed).
◎Earth revolves around the sun at the speed of 30 km/sec. It takes 365 days, 5 hr & 45.51 sec to complete one revolution.
◎Dates when days and nights are equal= March 21 and 23rd September.
◎Longest day = 21st june.
◎Shortest night= 22nd December.
●Facts about the Moon÷
◎Diameter=3476 km
◎Average distance from earth= 384365 km
◎Only a few people know that we always see only one side of the moon and have never seen its other side. It is because of the fact that the time taken by the moon to rotate on its own axis = time taken by it to orbit the earth i.e, approximately 28 days. This type of rotation is called Synchronous rotation.
◎Time taken by moonlight to reach the Earth= 1.3 sec.

● All the 8 planets revolve around the sun at diverse speed and have different time period of revolution. The farther a planet from the sun, the longer it took for that planet to make one complete revolution.
