A fine of Rs 10,000 may apply in terms of Section 272B of the Income Tax Act if you fail to link the two documents within the stipulated time and your PAN is no longer valid and it will be assumed that your PAN has not been provided as required by law.
Opening a bank account, buying shares or shares, and making transactions for more than Rs 50,000 are several purposes for which a PAN card is mandatory.

To link your PAN to Aadhaar, you can go to the e-filing portal of the tax department.
1) Click on the Link Aadhaar section on the left.
2) You need to fill in the PAN number, Aadhaar number and name.
3) Complete the CAPTCHA.
4) Click on the 'Link Aadhaar' option and your PAN Aadhaar Linking will end.
The IT department will verify your name, date of birth and gender compared to Aadhaar details after which the connection will be made.

If you are unable to connect your PAN to Aadhaar using the department's e-filing website, you can connect your PAN with Aadhaar number by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from a registered mobile number.

Here is the format: IDPAN (12-digit Aadhaar number) (10-digit PAN) and send it to 567678 or 56161.

If you wish to connect your PAN card to Aadhaar manually, you can visit the PAN help center.
You will be asked to complete the form 'Annexure-I' and supporting documents - a copy of the PAN card and Aadhaar card. Unlike online services, this service is free. One has to pay the amount owed to them.
