Maharashtra- The BJP has been demanding the removal of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government after former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh dropped a letter on a bomb stating that Anil Deshmukh wants police to collect $ 100 million a month from bars and hotels in Mumbai.
Anil Deshmukh resigned on Monday as Maharashtra Home Affairs Minister after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI investigation into allegations of corruption against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
NCP leader Nawab Malik said, "After the Bombay High Court ordered the CBI investigation into a letter from former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, Deshmukh expressed his desire to resign." Deshmukh handed over his resignation letter to NCP director Sharad Pawar, who agreed. Deshmukh then met with Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray and handed him a letter.
In his letter of resignation, Deshmukh stated that he did not consider it appropriate to continue as home affairs minister following an order from the Bombay High Court.
To adjourn the case, including allegations of Deshmukh's corruption and misconduct, as 'unusual and unprecedented', the court asked the CBI to complete the investigation within 15 days, after which the CBI director was free to take further action.
The BJP has been demanding the removal of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government after former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh dropped a bomb stating that Deshmukh wanted the police to collect billions of dollars from bars and hotels in Mumbai.
However, the government has maintained that such allegations are part of a “conspiracy” to defame it. Pawar and Malik were also questioning the "time" of Param Bir Singh's book.
