WhatsApp to delete accounts that don’t accept new policy of Whatsapp
BENGALURU: Facebook's messaging service WhatsApp has not postponed its controversial privacy policy in India and will gradually remove user accounts that do not accept the new terms and conditions.
WhatsApp lawyers Arvind Datar and Kapil Sibhal informed the Delhi High Court on Monday that there was no postponement of the policy, saying the technology company was trying to convince users to board and could end up deleting non-compliant user accounts. with new rules. Sibal added that although the accounts would not be deleted immediately, they would eventually be deleted if the guidelines were not accepted.
This stance contradicts previous reports that WhatsApp has removed or postponed the release of its privacy policy in India - a new set of rules surrounding business details and business accounts that have sparked widespread criticism across the country. there will be no user privacy waiver.
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, who appeared on behalf of the Central Government, told Delhi HC that WhatsApp's new privacy policy violates the country's Information Technology Act, 2020 and that a response was sought from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the spot. The institution wants to keep the status quo in the implementation of the policy, a proposal opposed by Whatsapp.
According to data analyst Sensor Tower, WhatsApp downloads during January-April dropped by 43 percent to 172.3 million worldwide after announcing a change to its new privacy policy.
