Two blasts rock Indian Air Force station in Jammu, 2 sustain minor injuries
Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an FIR under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an FIR under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in connection with two powerful explosions at an airport run by the Indian Air Force in Jammu early on Sunday.
While the first explosion took place at 1.37 am, the second happened at 1.42 am. Sources said two people have sustained minor injuries by the splinters from the blast.
Defence PRO Lt Colonel Devender Anand said no damage has been reported to the equipment present there. Investigation is on and further details are awaited, he added.
The case has been registered under Sections 16 and 18 of UAPA which relate to conspiracy and commission of terrorist acts, sources said.
Senior NIA officials, who were already in Kashmir valley over investigations into some other case, have been asked to reach Jammu. An NSG team is also arriving from Delhi.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has had a word with Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal HS Arora, regarding the incident. Air Marshal Vikram Singh is also reaching Jammu to take stock of the situation, the Defence Minister’s Office stated.
An alert has also been sounded across the Jammu division. Sources said 1 person was injured by splinters from the blast.
Police have also arrested two people from near the area. They added that soon after the explosion, police dispatched a bomb disposal squad and a team of forensic experts to the technical area.
Suspected militant held with IED
A suspected militant was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police from near a shopping mall in the jurisdiction of Trikuta Nagar Police station. An IED was seized from him.
Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said that the IED weighed nearly 5 kilograms.
Sources said that an over-ground worker was also apprehended along with the militant
