Doctor Assaulted by Kin of Deceased COVID Patient in Assam
Assam: A young doctor was brutally beaten by a mob and relatives of a Covid-19 patient named Gyasuddin after the patient died at the Odali Covid-19 care center in the Hojai district of Assam. According to reports, after a Covid-19 patient died at the center, the relatives of the deceased patient brutally beat the doctor identified as Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati. A video of the incident also went viral on social media where some people were seen attacking the young doctor and kicking him.
While talking to the media, Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati said, “The patient’s relatives complained that the patient’s condition was serious. When I saw the patient, I found that he had already died. The relatives then immediately vandalized the furniture at the hospital and attacked me.”
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Brutality against a doctor post MBBS, rural posting is highly condemnable. I demand an impartial inquiry and Strict action against those culprits.” He also said that such barbaric attacks on frontline workers wouldn’t be tolerated.
Assam Police has arrested 24 people connected with an alleged attack on a junior doctor at a Covid care center in the Hojai district. “Twenty-four culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested, and a charge sheet will be filed at the earliest. I am personally monitoring this investigation, and I promise that justice will be served, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
