Mawya Sudan, First Woman Fighter Pilot In IAF From Rajouri, Jammu Kashmir UT

Jammu Kashmir:- Flying officer Mawya Sudan from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district has become the 12th woman officer in the country to be inducted as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force (IAF). Daughter of Sushma and Vinod Sudan, who hail from the village of Lamberi in Nowshera tehsil of J&K, Mawya was commissioned into the IAF as a flying officer on June 19.

She became the first woman fighter pilot in the force from the district of Rajouri.
According to Mawya’s parents, their daughter achieved the feat solely because of her hard work. “Parents should support their daughters, they can do anything,” they told ANI.

Who is Mawya Sudan ?

Mawya is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri. She has become the first woman from the district and, overall, the 12th woman officer to be recruited as a fighter pilot in the IAF. She was commissioned at the combined graduation parade, held on Saturday (June 19) at the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad.

Mawya follows footsteps of Flight Lieutenants Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh, who made history in 2016, by becoming the first women to be commissioned as flying officers. IAF, currently, has eleven women fighter pilots.

The young fighter pilot from J&K has completed her basic training and will now undergo rigorous training for over a year before she can become “fully operational” as a fighter pilot and can take on combat flying.

It was Mawya’s childhood dream to become a fighter pilot and serve the country. “I am sure she will add to her laurels soon. This is just the beginning,” said Tanya Sudan, her elder sister, revealing that she was always inclined towards the Air Force. “Her bravery, strong-will and passion continues to break stereotypes, pave new paths and most importantly inspire me to be my best every day (sic),” she added. Her mother, Sushma Sudan said she is happy that her younger daughter has worked hard and achieved her goal while her proud father, Vinod Sudan, said that now Mawys is not just their daughter but a daughter of this country.

Sudan’s family and the villagers were elated at her achievement.
