NEET 2021 UPDATES: No change in NEET-UG dates, says ministry of education
According to officials from the ministry of education, any changes in NEET-UG dates now will delay the exam by at least 60 to 70 days due to logistical issues and may also result in indefinite delay due to other uncertainties.
NEW DELHI: There is no change in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG dates, though aspirants have been demanding its rescheduling due to back-to-back exams including those conducted by CBSE.
According to officials from the ministry of education, any changes in NEET-UG dates now will delay the exam by at least 60 to 70 days due to logistical issues and may also result in indefinite delay due to other uncertainties. The exam is scheduled for September 12, 2021, with a record 16.1 lakh candidates have registered for the test for admission to various medical science-related courses.
A section of aspirants has been demanding the postponement of the exams as there are no gaps between various exams. While September 3, 6, and 7 has been scheduled for the Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test of Andhra Pradesh, CBSE has set September 6 as the date of its chemistry exam. September 7 to 9 are the dates for the Indian Council of Agricultural Research All India Entrance Examination, while September 9 is also the date for CBSE's physics exam. September 11 and 13 is the physics and biology exam for the MP Board. September 13 is also CBSE's mathematics exam and September 14 is COMEDK.
Unlike some other exams, there is though no clash of dates with the NEET-UG, aspirants however are tweeting #delayNEETUG and #PostponeNEET and demanding a new date saying that they require more time for preparing for the exam because of the change in the new exam pattern.
NEET-UG has already been postponed once, from August 1. According to a senior official with the ministry of education, the exams are to be conducted as scheduled. “NEET-UG is a high stake exam and it involves logistics of a large scale. Security is another paramount issue. Moreover, this is a single-day exam, and therefore given the number of candidates NTA takes close to 90 days for preparation. The earlier date has been shifted to September and was announced well in advance. Any further change in date will mean another at least 60 days of preparation. Moreover, given the unprecedented situation, this is the best time for conducting the exams and also the admissions could be conducted without much delay,” said the official.
The official also added, “Given the uncertainties, any delay and subsequent unforeseen scenario may delay the exams indefinitely.”
According to NTA sources, the candidates have already been informed of their allotted cities and centre details, and admit cards will be made available from September 9 night.
