Breaking News: Amarinder Singh Resigns as Chief Minister of Punjab; His Entire Council Follows Suit

Punjab Congress Crisis LIVE Updates: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit amid turmoil in the state Congress. Raninder Singh, Amarinder’s, confirmed it and tweeted a photo of the Captain handing over his resignation to Purohit.

 

Earlier, he had tweeted: “Haha indeed indeed must go now as I am proud to accompany my father to Raj Bhawan when he submits his resignation as CM of Punjab and leads us as head of our family into a new beginning et all [sic].” Singh has said he will address a press conference at 4:30 pm.

 

The turmoil came to ahead today even as the COngress has called for a  key CLP meet amid complaints against the chief minister. This also comes hours after Captain was believed to have told his friends in the party, Kamal Nath and Manish Tewari, that he “cannot continue in the party with this kind of humiliation”. As the buzz grained ground, former cabinet minister Master Mohan Lal invited Singh to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and take charge. Meanwhile, party observers from Delhi, Ajay Maken and Manish Tewari, was received by state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu at Chandigarh airport, following which they reached the party headquarters in the state.
