Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Election 2021 Results: AAP scores big in first electoral attempt in Punjab, wins 14 seats
Chandigarh Municipal Election 2021 Results LIVE Updates: In a massive boost for the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Assembly elections in Punjab, it won 14 of the 35 wards in Chandigarh, a city administered by the Centre and ruled by the BJP, results for which were declared on Monday.
The BJP, which had swept the last Chandigarh Municipal Corporation polls winning 21 of 26 wards, ended second, with 12. The Congress won eight wards and the Akali Dal 1.
As the Aam Aadmi party emerged as the surprise frontrunner in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections, senior leader of the party Raghav Chadha said that it was a “victory of Kejriwal’s model of governance as people were yearning for a change for years”.
Nine counting centres were set up for 35 wards of the municipal corporation, and counting began at 9 am.
The polling percentage remained at 60.45 per cent this year, which was held on December 24. Traditionally, the municipal election – held every five years – has seen a locking of horns between the BJP and the Congress, but the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party made the contest this time triangular.
