Three Jammu-based foreign travellers found Covid +ve, samples sent for Omicron test
Jammu: Amid Omicron variant scare, three Jammu residents who recently returned from foreign tours have been found positive for Covid-19 and their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.
“The samples of three foreign travellers from Jammu have been sent for Omicron variant testing after they were found Covid positive through RT-PCR on their.
RT-PCR on their return,” officials sources said.
The three Jammuites having history of foreign travelling had returned from Ireland, France and Italy, they said.
Principal Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma said, “As of now no case of Omicron has been found in Govt Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu.”
“However three persons who have foreign travel history been found Covid positive through RT-PCR test,” she added
She said, “Their samples have been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing to check whether all three or any one of them is Omicron infected and the reports are awaited.”
Here it needs to mention that Govt Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu conducted CME on new variant of SARS-CoV 2 'Omicron' on Thursday to make the faculty updated about the evolution, signs & symptoms and management of 'Omicron'.
Experts including Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean GMC&H Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion said as per the reports till now 'Omicron' has high transmissibility & low virulence but still we cannot let our guard down and we have to be prepared to meet any eventuality.
“The observance of Covid appropriate behaviour, early completion of vaccination & following the test, tract and treat strategy is the key to win the war on the Covid-19 pandemic, '' they added.
