Jammu Kashmir land records: Latest update
The recent announcement on January 9, 2023, by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has upset the local population in J&K as the land types in question are generally used by the poor for shelter and agriculture. Further, the pieces of land registered as Kahcharai and Shamilat are also considered State land as per the latest order. These are village lands primarily used by the community for grazing, dispensaries, and schools, among other activities. Existing registered titles of land records in Kashmir and land under the presently annulled Roshni Act will also see an impact post the order. The Act is currently under review at the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
