Reasi: Protests were held in Jammu on Sunday after a Hindu temple was allegedly vandalised by unknown miscreants in Reasi district. A group of unidentified people allegedly attacked the Shiv temple in Dharmari, about 50 km from Reasi district, Saturday night, police said.
Local residents said that when they visited the temple last night, they saw that the Shivling and idols were damaged and the entire temple was ransacked. As the pictures and videos of vandalism went viral on social media platforms, several Hindu organisations, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and locals held protests at various places in the district demanding that the culprits be brought to justice. Locals have given 24 hours to the administration to arrest the people involved in the matter.
Taking note of the incident, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan reached the spot and inspected the temple. He said that whoever was behind the incident will not be spared and arrests will be made in the case as soon as possible.
“Whoever is trying to create tension in Reasi will not be spared. Those who want to disrupt peace and development work in the district will be not be able to do so. Police and administration is working on the matter and soon those who are involved in the incident will be arrested. We will not tolerate any kind of attempt to damage peace in Reasi. FIR will be filed and culprits will also be arrested. Strict action will be taken under relevant sections of law,” the senior police officer said while talking to reporters about the incident.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Ajay Nanda condemned the vandalism incident at the Shiv temple and urged the administration and police to take stringent action against the culprits “who want to disturb religious harmony”. He described the attack on the temple, an “assault on harmony and religious sentiments”.
“I strongly condemn the vandalism at Dharmari Shiv Mandir in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir and request the LG administration @OfficeOfLGJandK @DMReasi @JmuKmrPolice to take strict action against the culprits who want to disturb religious harmony,” he said in a post on X.
